The year 2010 is well on its way and it makes me wonder which way we are headed in terms of weight loss.  Daily we are bombarded by the media with products and promotions and the desperation in us makes their promises sound so genuine.  One strong point to consider in a weight loss product advertisement is motif.  I think by now we are all pretty much aware than exercise and mindful eating is the only answer to healthy weight loss.  Despite this if an advertisement is claiming otherwise,the motif most often that not is financial gain.

Over the past two decades we have seen the rise in diet pills,slimming centres and weight loss programs that offer quick fixes.  During this time till today not one of these products/programs has stood the test of time and emerged as a cure for weight loss.  None of them can because the top spot will always belong to excercise and proper diet.  Even talk-show queen,Oprah who says “you cannot throw me a curve ball when it comes to losing weight”is prove enough of this truth.  With experts in every field at her disposal and years of battling fat publicly,Oprah is again trying to lose weight through nothing but exercise and diet.

When we choose the quick fix route,this is the usual scenario.  You still have to do some kind of diet control,probably even some exercise.  You are required to undergo a treatment of some sort or consume weight loss products or both.  Of course the results will come but at a cost.  The products will have their side-effects since they manipulate the body to act in an unnatural way.  Once you quit the program the weight comes back fast and you regret the money that you splashed on it since you’re back to square one.

The other route,the right one,has an absolutely different scenario.  The painful path of adhereing to a routine of challenging exercises and moderating the consumption of the “junk”food that you love,for life is not an easy one.  You struggle with the same decisions daily but if you succeed in making the right ones everytime,the results are pretty much awesome.  Not only does the weight stay off for good but you get a new leash on a healthy and youthful life.  A life that is full of confidence.

So,which way are you going?
