Everbody secretly knows that the most effective way to lose weight is by exercising and controlling what we eat. But somehow starting it is so hard. Then if we do manage to start, keeping it up is even harder.
Until now I cannot figure out why humans have a tendency towards having everything as easy and as quick as possible. If something is bad for us,its the same thing that gives us the most pleasure. Probably I have to start researching on the functions of the brain next.
Coming back to the topic in hand,I was no different when it came to healthy living. I loved bad food and hated moving about. Even when I had serious back and allergy problems,it didn’t bother me that much that I had to lie in bed most of the time.
Then one summer the awakening started. The UK government decided to run a campaign against diabetes. Everywhere I looked there we posters asking if my waist was above 33 inches.
The TV channels ran the campaign advertisements at every opportunity. They just wouldn’t leave me alone. Then somewhere in between I got the shocker when a friend who was on the heavy side, ordered coffee without sugar. When I asked him why,he told he’d been diagnosed with diabetes.
My blood ran cold on the spot. The only thing I could think of was,‘it could have been me’. Diabetes is manageable don’t get me wrong, but I’ve grown up my whole life being scared of it. So fear coupled with a lifelong ambition of being slim were my early day motivators.
