Drinking water is my miracle habit. I was a person who literally hated water. Especially warm water. I would avoid it at all costs. But for the sake of losing weight I had to learn to stomach it.
I used to have 2 glasses first thing in the morning and then 2 glasses with every meal. The 2 morning glasses were the worst of the lot. Yet I used to gulp it down like medicine. But I got used to the taste slowly and it has become a habit for over a year now.
Nevertheless, downing 2 glasses at one go is not easy especially when you’ve just had your meal and don’t feel particularly thirsty. The water comes up to your neck figuratively and the stomach feels so bloated and tight with all that water.
Recently I bought this beautiful water bottle to be used when I travelled. But then I thought why not keep the bottle filled and sip water from it all day. This way I wouldn’t have to gulp down 2 glasses at one go as long as I finished my 2-litre quota.
Guess what? I never felt so refreshed in my life. For the first time I’m fully enjoying the benefits of being hydrated all day long. I can work longer and suprisingly I’m actually drinking more water.
From this experience I guess it’s safe to say that this is the way we were meant to drink water. I really look forward to drinking water now and how it makes me feel all day. Of course filling up the bottle is a bit of a chore, but one that I gladly do these days.

Hi Shamala!
Greetings from Brunei Darussalam! I stumbled on your website while goggling for "The Biggest Loser Asia". I have been spending the past hour reading your website, searching for tips in order to motivate myself to start exercising. I used to frequent gyms however since my conversion to Islam,I came up with plenty of reasons NOT to go to the gym. And as a result,my BMI is now 29.3.
To cut the story short,I am trying to get back on track despite how slow it seems. On the issue of water consumption,do you have some tips to make drinking water more exciting? I rarely drink water (even when I was a toddler) and the only time I would drink water is when there are no other beverages available.
Thank you Shamala for inspiring others, myself included!
Hi Izz,thanks for reading my posts and your encouraging comment !
It seems like you're going through some trying times and it's in these times that we find it the hardest to take care of ourselves. Nevertheless I must congratulate you on your efforts to start up your exercising again.
On the issue of water, you could get flavoured water in the market but they are a little bit expensive. Alternatively you could add a squeeze of lemon or grapefruit to create your own homemade flavoured water. That's as far as I would go.
It took me a long time to get here and if I can do it anybody can. I'm sure with practice and perseverance you will one day be telling me how you can't live without water !
Homemade lemon tea huh…very creative !
Good afternoon Shamala
Thanks for the tip! I bought a few lemons right after I saw your reply. And as of today,Wednesday,9 December 2009,the lemons were an add-on to my tea instead of using it to flavour my water! Hmm…need to push myself harder!
