Martha Lai,the endearing 19-year won the hearts of her fellow contestants from both the red and blue teams of The Biggest Loser Asia Season 1.  They have often described her as the life of the party and a breath of fresh air and I understood why after the interview.  It goes to show that being lovable when coupled with determination is a quality combination that will take you far!

Q: You are just 2kgs away from being 85kgs,your original goal,how does it feel ? Do you have a new target?
A:Saw that 85 kilos was still not enough.. but felt happy for my achievement. Yes ,new goal is 70 kilos ..

Q: How did it feel to be in the final four?
A: I felt really honoured,Happy.

Q: Did you think you had a chance of taking the title?
A: No…not at all.

Q: Being only 19,what were your challenges in losing weight?
A: A lot of craving for food.

Q: Has losing weight and the way you feel about yourself improved things with your mum?
A: Not really.. haha ..

Q: Do you think you’ve gained more confidence in yourself now?
A: Definitely ,more than before for sure.

Q: Is there a change in how your friends react to you now?
A: Well… not really ,im still me ;)

Q: Is TBLA big in Hong Kong? Do you get stopped in stopped in the streets over there?
A: No … not really big ..

Q: I understand that you’re living with Tony and his girlfriend currently. Is it because you still need help losing weight?
A: No.. but I kinda got used to having them aroun. I feel better around them,I love my big brother .

Q: Do you think about your job at the pet shop?
A: No ,not a bit.

Q: When are you planning to go back to Hong Kong and what are your future career plans?
A: I will be going back on the 8th april to settle somethings out and may come back to stay with Tony and study .

Q: Almost every young girl dreams of becoming a model. With your height and beauty,have you ever considered it?
A: Yes,but that’s not reality … I will never get to a model’s ideal weight .. I don’t want to be the skinny type.

Q: Are you getting the attention that you wanted from boys or is it too much attention now?
A: Not that much still … haha not that thin yet .. lets see leter on.

Q:What caused you to be overweight and why do you think many teenagers are facing overweight issues now?
A: The lifestyle now .. we just sit a lot and eat and just hang around doing nothing .

Q: What is the difference between your workout regime now and the regime at the villa?
A: Now I don’t go as crazy as 8-hours-a-day workouts .. it’s moderated . But food wise still the same as it was in the villa.

Q: What was your biggest motivating factor outside the villa?
A: Knowing that I have the power and knowledge to do it.

Q: How did you come to know about the audition and what made you go for it?
A: I’ve always followed the American and Australian Biggest Losers and said to myself that if Asia ever has one I definitely will go for it. And guess what? They did and I went for the auditions .

Q: How was the experience of your audition in Singapore? Did anyone accompany you?
A: I remember being nervous and excited,wanting to be on the show so much but in the end being myself helped the most. I went there alone.

Q: We know you are close to Gary now. Did you misunderstand him in any way at the villa?
A: No ,I was always very close to Garry. I was really pissed when the reds eliminated him.

Q: Did you ‘really’ slack off after winning the golden ticket immunity or were the footages an exaggeration?
A: I did slack off a bit ,but not on food … that was my lunch .. on exercise,yes I did slack off.

Q: Looking back do you think you could have worked harder or was that your best effort?
A: Somedays I could have given more I think,but I don’t have any regrets at all.

Q: What do you like about Dave Nuku as your trainer?
A: Very happy and satisfied,he is a good man and really cares about us ,really love the guy ;)

Q: Who was your favourite contestant at the villa apart from Gary and Tony and why?
A: David,Aaron and Marilyn .. we were just one big happy family ,David and Aaron treated me like a little sister,Marilyn too . I love these guys just so much. I think in the previous life we all were in the same family ;)

Q: Do you find your popularity stressful in terms of maintaining your weight?
A: No…not at all,maintaining my weight is just what I need to do no matter what.

Q: Why did you miss Tony so much when he was hospitalised at the villa?
A: It was different without him,he makes me laugh all the time and he plays around with me a lot,like bullying me and stuff and I just missed it a lot .

Q: Will you ever change your popular style of colourful expressions?
A: No,that’s who I am .

Q: Was there animosity between the red and blue teams at the villa and did it change in the individual rounds?
A: No it never changed .

Q: How is your relationship with the rest of the contestants today? Who do you keep in touch with most?
A: The whole blue team except Goddess and Damietta. Red team,I mostly still talk to them a lot,of course the most is Garry and Nadia .

Q:Was there any incident at the villa that really affected you,that was not shown to the viewers?
A: Nope.

Q: Do you think you could have ever done it without THE BIGGEST LOSER ASIA?
A: Simple . NO

Q: Is there anything else you would like to say?
A: THE BIGGEST LOSER ASIA ROCKSSS… I’m really happy that I got to know all these loveable people and friends. This will never change,we all will remain friends for life and I find it quite funny how we bounded so well while we never met each other before. The feeling is just great.

Q: How would you describe the whole experience?
A: Awesome! For me,I am happy that I was able to lose the weight and gain the knowledge,meet these people,both the trainers,and it was fun.. haha.. seeing yourself on TV,and the whole production team,I love every single one of them.

Q: Your words of motivation for fans and readers?
A: Nothing is a free ride like carlos say ,its true .. nothing is free ,you work hard and you gain the best . I know it is hard ,it is realllly hard ,but keep your mind straight anything is achievable ,I know I did it ,honestly I am one of those person who has the most excuses in the the whole world ,and I did it ,yes u may need a little help ,go find help from friends or family ,I belive they’re the ones who will always be there for you ,and it may sound lame ,but exercise is the main thing ,then comes food . start slowly,it will take time,but when u see the results ,the motivation will never stop.
