What Is CelluliteWhat Is Cellulite

Cellulite is nothing but a term given to the appearance of our fat on the skin that is uneven, dimpled and patchy.  The reason it appears this way is because all of us have connective tissue that connects fat cells to our skin that form a pattern of pockets.   In women these pockets are larger and in the shape of honeycombs whereas in men they horizontal lines that run in a criss-cross,giving a diamond shape.

Fat is soft, pliable and needs more space than muscles.  That is why when fat cells increase they start pushing through these pockets from under the skin which gives cellulite its dimpled and patchy look.

It is the difference in the formation of these connective tissue (the pockets),that women are more susceptible to cellulite whereas in men it’s hardly noticeable.  The most commonest places cellulite appear are in the thighs, buttocks and abdomen which tend to be the biggest problem areas for women where weight gain is concerned.

Although toxins and poor circulation of blood and fluid can cause the body to store the waste in fat cells, they are not responsible for the appearance of cellulite.  Some people have no cellulite despite being obese while some lean people even teenagers can develop cellulite.

Age and genetics seem to be the biggest factor that influence cellulite.  As we age,the fibres of the connective tissue thicken and the skin becomes thinner, the combination of which makes cellulite more visible.  Also the average woman loses muscle and gains three times more fat in every decade of her life.
