The thyroid gland, also known as the master gland,is located as the base of the frontal-neck and shaped as a butterfly. It affects most of the body’s functions by controlling cellular activity.
One of the problems of the thyroid is where it produces too little thyroid hormone, called hypothyroidism.
A major symptom of hypothyroidism is continuous weight gain despite weight loss efforts as it slows down the metabolism. Many of us are affected by hypothyroidism to a certain degree but remain unaware of it.
If you’ve been doing everything right to lose weight such as proper exercise and diet control, yet see no results, there’s a good chance that you’re suffering from hypothyroidism.
Hypothyroidism is usually diagnosed by a simple blood test. A most common treatment for it is taking a thyroid pill once a day, although complicated cases warrant different treatments such as hormone treatments or surgery.
Other symptoms of hypothyroidism include all or any combination of the following:- tiredness, cold intolerence, dry skin, hair loss, constipation, mood swings, memory loss, menstrual irregularity and depression. It is advisable to check our thyroid levels early and start treatment if diagnosed. Left untreated the symptoms usually worsen.
Hypothyroidism is more common than we realise. For many of us,weight loss is made impossible by this condition. Put your suspicions to rest by getting your thyroid levels checked as soon as possible.
