As I’ve mentioned earlier,I’m not a fan of starting big. Everytime I start exercising after a gap,I observe certain rules,to avoid set backs.
We should always exercise at the fitness level we’re at,not at the level we want to be. Unless you’re overweight but extremely fit (which is a highly unlikely combination),I would recommend starting small.
Normally I start off with just a 5-10 minute workout. Even if I’m able to continue I don’t. I do this for the next two days. If I feel fine then I increase it to 20 minutes and so on.
What I did could be too much or too little for you depending at what fitness level you’re at. It’s never a good idea to blindly follow or compare with someone else’s exercise regime.
Feeling sore for the next couple of days or even a week is normal and expected after initial workouts. It happens because your muscles did something they’re not used to doing.
The soreness will slowly fade away until you subject your muscles to something new again. However muscle soreness is not an indication of a result-causing workout. It means you need to let the muscles recover before starting again.
It is important to listen to your body. If your soreness doesn’t go away it could be a sign of other problems. Continued over-exertion can lead to unwanted injuries.
Weight loss through exercise is achieved with consistent training. A good routine would be 5-6 workouts a week.
