My Musings On YogaMy Musings On Yoga

Yoga which originated from India has probably become more popular in the west than in India itself which is proof of its goodness. Sometimes I feel if it was not for the western world this once “hidden jewel”would have remained hidden from us forever.  Knowing today how important glandular function and proper breathing is for health and weight loss,I’m amazed that yoga focuses on these very issues through its breathing techniques and postures.

It is rather fascinating that people who lived thousands of years before us had such extensive knowledge about the science of the human body and created an art form that encompasses every health aspect in one.  Although yoga might not provide fast weight loss results compared to cardio and strength training,I do not doubt that yoga practiced in its proper form will cure us of many illnesses including obesity.

You might then be wondering how come yoga is not included in my weight loss plan.  I can only say that I am intimidated by this ancient art and am not ready to take it on yet.  My several attempts at it revealed that I’m lacking in the department of physical strength, fitness and flexibility needed for yoga.  Like Bob’s (The Biggest Loser trainer) blue team always finds out ‘yoga is not easy!’

As you probably know I love natural approaches to weight loss because the results are hollistic.  Having said that,I believe yoga is indispensable to us.  If you are raring to go you can start immediately.  But if you’re anything like me and want to take it slow, start by spending some serious time stretching after your workouts.

Stretching in itself is akin to some yoga postures while helping in muscle recovery after a tough workout. I do anywhere between 30 to 45 minutes myself and it leaves me feeling great!
