We are all familiar with the phrase “breakfast is the most important meal of the day”,but how many of us put it into practice. If fact when we compare breakfast, lunch and dinner,“the most important meal of the day”gets no importance whatsoever.
We try to get up as late as we can in the morning, then its all a big rush to work. Dressing up for work cannot be compromised so its good old breakfast that gets sacrificed.
Perhaps if we really really understood the benefits of breakfast and its role in weight loss,we wouldn’t treat it so carelessly. The reality of it is that breakfast has a huge impact on our brain activity and eating habits for the rest of the day.
From our last meal the night before till the time we get up the next morning, the body goes without food and water for 8-12 hours. During sleep, the body doesn’t actually shut down but is quite busy repairing, rejuvenating and preparing itself for the next grueling day.
When morning comes, void of energy from the night’s work, our body is literally crying out for fuel and energy. The brain which is the most alert after a good night’s sleep, needs glucose to send millions of signals to the rest of the body and to think.
So when breakfast is skipped, what do you think happens? The starved body starts sending massive hunger signals. In this state there is a high chance that we will overeat the rest of the day as the hunger turns into cravings. Any chance for dieting, exercise and weight loss in this state? I don’t think so.
